Belanno, which received the $50,000 grant earlier this month to fund the camp, is just one of two schools in Wisconsin to receive a STARTALK grant this year. STARTALK, which is funded by the National Security Administration, seeks to expand and improve the teaching and learning of important world languages that are not widely taught in the United States.
Moubarak, who founded Belanno is 2008, is elated to have received the funding.
“We are thrilled to receive a STARTALK grant to deliver these language camps to children of all cultures,” said Moubarak. “This is an amazing opportunity for the children of the Fox Cities to learn about cultures that are not as commonly known.
“We are also delighted to fuse heritage learners into these camps to provide even greater global understanding.”
This is the second year Belanno has received a STARTALK grant. Last summer, Belanno ran a two-week long Hindi camp for children.
